The what

A 6X6 metre interactive metal cube at Alexandra Palace that gradually revealed bespoke Minecraft artwork over time.

The why

Minecraft wanted a big, memorable and newsworthy celebration for their 15th birthday. Not only did it have to be interactive and experiential, but it also needed to look great on video.

The how

We devised a simple but compelling way to engage the public with the installation - splitting the artwork into thousands of numbered magnets which could be placed on the cube individually. In effect, Minecraft fans and visitors were creating the artwork themselves.

Key to the activation was ensuring that the experience could be captured on film in an engaging way that suggested a gradual reveal. This meant uncovering larger, harder-to-reach sections of the artwork in stages.

Creative Giants were involved from the outset, coordinating and collaborating with the brand, venue, agencies and contractors. We oversaw the project through to completion, creatively problem solving at every stage to ensure the original objectives were never compromised.

We love it because
  • It reflects a feeling and an atmosphere at the heart of one of the world’s most iconic cultural events

  • It highlights our design and build expertise, installing sculpture in the public realm

  • It allowed us to work with a globally recognised artist and bring his work to life for the public.
